Duke University Press’s director wanted the majority of the press’s journals to be rendered in HTML display as soon as possible. The main constraints included limited budget and staff resources.

Approach:

  • Evaluation and ranking of each journal’s difficulty to transition to an XML workflow
  • Budget analysis
  • Creation of timeline and rollout specification plans

Solution:
Given budget and staff time constraints, I created an XML transition schedule for 26 journals and approximately 2 new journal website launches each year from 2015 – 2020. Displaying journal content in HTML will allow for better indexing and search results. In addition, users can review article content prior to reading in-depth or downloading a PDF.
